Celebration vs. subversion

Despite liking the elegant look of the typeface, I wasn't the biggest fan of how dimensional Didot's uses are. The characterisation with the extreme contrast, hairline serifs, and vertical stress of letters makes the font unique but its limited by its uses in magazines and high fashion. Experimenting with both celebrating and subverting the font, I found subversion resonated more as for me, its uses lack creativity while the font itself does not.

Experimenting with celebrating the typeface- 'Becoming Didot' Kit: a kit which has instructions and objects that I associate with the type to enable the user to physically become the type. Didot personified.
Experimenting with subverting the typeface- Editing the type onto traditional British objects/logos which to me, represent the direct opposite of Didot's luxurious neoclassical identity. However, I feel the final look of the logos is not as impactful as I would like them to be. In some cases, without the comparison side by side, you would not know Didot has been used.

With all these experimentations I used Illustrator to manipulate text which was something just introduced to me and took a while to fully understand to an extent I could successfully utilise. I think it has enabled a basic understanding of the programme and I aim to use it more in depth in future projects.
